Hello friend, hope you’re doing well. Today I want to talk about a car that’s been on my mind lately: the MG ZS EV. I’ll share what I found, what I like, what to watch out for, and why it might be worth considering if you’re thinking of switching to an electric vehicle. I’ll try to keep things simple and relatable—just like two friends chatting about cars.
Getting started: What is the MG ZS HEV?
The MG ZS EV is a compact electric SUV from MG ZS HEV (Morris Garters), brought to India to give us a more affordable “go-electric” option. What caught my eye is that it offers a full electric drive (no petrol engine), and yet it still looks like a normal car you can use every day. Do you know it’s very special because it gives a range of around 461 km (claimer) on a full charge in ideal conditions.
When I say “in our town”, I mean in a place like Patna or similar Indian cities. So keep in mind that real-life range may vary.
Price: What are we looking at, MG ZS HEV?
So brother, when you consider buying this car in India, here’s what I found:
- The ex-showroom price of the base variant starts from about ₹ 17.99 lakh in India.
- For the fully-loaded variant it goes up to around ₹ 20.50 lakh (ex-showroom) in some listings.
- “On-road” price (including RTO, insurance, etc) in cities like Delhi may come to ₹ 20.79 lakh to ₹ 23.67 lakh according to one source.
In our town, if you include taxes, registration, maybe some extras, you might end up spending somewhere around ₹ 22-25 lakh (just a rough thought). So yes, it’s a serious amount, but for an electric MG ZS HEV.

Looks & design: What you’ll see and feel
Let’s talk about how it appears and what it feels like.
Exterior
It has a modern SUV look—compact but confident. The roofline, the wheels, the stance: it doesn’t shout “cheap MG ZS HEV”, it looks decent for what it is.
Interior & features
Friend, when you sit inside, one thing I like is the tech-stuff: there’s a big touchscreen (10.1-inch in some variants) with Apple CarPlay / Android Auto support. The cabin materials seem fairly good for the price—leatherette seats in higher trims, you get a panoramic sunroof in some versions.
Because of the electric drive (no big engine in the front), you often feel more space (especially for passengers in the back) and less vibration. If you ever ride in stop-and-go traffic in Patna, that quietness is something you’ll appreciate.
Performance & driving: How it is on the road
Now this is where electric cars shine, and the MG ZS HEV is no exception.
- The motor produces about 174 bhp and 280 Nm of torque (in the specs I found) which gives quite good “pick-up” when you press the accelerator.
- Claimed range: 461 km on a single charge under ideal conditions.
- Because it’s electric, you get instant torque (i.e., as soon as you press the pedal you feel movement). That makes city driving fun.
But, as you know, real life is a bit different:
- In heavy traffic, with AC on, maybe on highways, the real range will drop.
- Charging infrastructure matters: if you have a convenient place to charge overnight (at home or work), then it’s much more practical. If not, you’ll be planning ahead.
Features & safety: What you get
Brother, this car gives a good package for the price. Some features I like:
- Panoramic sunroof (in higher variants) – feels premium.
- 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC (electronic stability control) – good for family safety
- 360-degree camera, wireless charging pad in some trims.
- Boot space is decent too (~448 litres) for a compact SUV.
So for a family of four or five, city plus weekend out-of-town drive, it looks quite okay.

Colours & variants: Some options
Let me tell you about what “look” options you might pick (since I like seeing how it fits my style).
Colours seen include Aurora Silver, Candy White, Glaze Red, Starry Black, and there are dual-tone roof options (like black roof + body colour).
Variants: executive, excite pro, exclusive plus, essence. The higher the trim, the more features (sunroof, dual-tone, etc). Pick according to budget and need.
Real-life example & experience
Let me tell you a realistic scenario: Suppose you live in Patna (like our area) and your daily commute is, say, 40 km round-trip. You can plug in at home at night (assuming you have a socket or a dedicated wall box). In that case you might charge overnight and drive every day without worry. On weekends you plan a drive to nearby town, say 200 km away. The range might drop a bit, but still manageable.
When I ride in traffic, the quietness of electric motor is relaxing. No engine roar, less vibration. People might glance because of that “electric car” feeling—it stands out a bit (in a good way). But if you’re far away from charging stations, or you do many long highway drives, you’ll need to plan. The infrastructure in smaller towns is improving but not perfect yet.
Pros & Cons: My opinion
What I like (Pros)
- Very good range (for this price) for an electric car.
- Good feature list and safety for the money.
- Fun to drive, especially in city traffic.
- Quiet, smooth, more refined feel compared to many regular petrol/diesel cars.
- The “green” factor—less direct cost on petrol, benefit to environment.
What to watch out for (Cons)
- Price: It’s higher than equivalent petrol/diesel compact SUVs. So budget must allow.
- Real-world range will be less than claimed; you must accept that.
- Charging infrastructure in smaller towns or highways may still have gaps. If you do many long drives frequently, could be a concern.
- Resale value: EV technology changes fast, so resale may have uncertainty.
- Possibly more expensive repairs or parts (battery, etc) though manufacturer warranty helps.
Verdict: Should you consider it?
Brother, if I were in your shoes and looking for a car for family + daily driving, + occasional weekend trips, and I’m open to electric, then yes, I’d seriously consider the MG ZS HEV. It strikes a good balance between practicality, tech, and future-proofing.
If I had to choose: If most of my driving is city + suburbs, and I have access to home charging overnight, this car makes a lot of sense. If instead I do a lot of long highway trips and live far from charging stations, maybe I’d wait a little or look at hybrid or newer MG ZS HEV as infrastructure improves.
For our town: If you buy it, you might tell people you’re driving into the future, but without paying crazy money like some high-end luxury MG ZS HEV.
Final thoughts
So friend, to sum up: The MG ZS EV is a very good electric SUV choice right now in the Indian market. With its claimed 461 km range, decent features, comfortable ride, and the MG ZS HEV brand behind it, it gives you an MG ZS HEV experience without going into super premium territory.
Of course, you’ll need to check local availability, what the on-road price in Patna (or your area) comes to, whether the variant has the features you want, and how easy charging will be for you. If all that checks out, I think you’ll enjoy it.
